||Dramatized documentary of the life of Norwegian painter and printmaker Edvard Munch (1863-1944), who was a major influence on German expressionism. Through the eyes of a recently retired curator, re-creates Munch's world using his art, autobiographical writings, photographs, and films. Focuses on his interest in the visual possibilities of photography and cinema, a little-known aspect of his creativity. Shows a series of photographic self-portraits made from about 1900 through the 1930s. Explains that in 1927 he purchased a movie camera and includes excerpts from four reels of film shot by Munch in Dresden and Oslo that year.
